Item description
This necklace is densely populated by black molded plastic buttons with extra accents of round brass tone metal beads and comes from the collection of a long-time vintage jewelry enthusiast. It looks like the designs by Frank Hess for Miriam Haskell. Just the sheer number of the “same” button is rare thing to a button collector, too.
I found a bracelet in cranberry red and turquoise blue that also was unmarked, page 211 of, "Collectible Costume Jewelry", by Cheri Simonds, 1997 edition, wherein she states that it is from the 1930s. Also, a pin in blue on page 45 of, "20th Century Plastic Jewelry" by Roseann Ettinger, 2007 edition.
It measures 22”; is equipped with a thumb-tab-less spring clasp (Miriam Haskell used these, too); NO “holes” (missing buttons) in the fringe; the gold tone plating has aged to a brassy tone with no verdigris (corrosion); overall, it is in excellent vintage condition.
Black is practical in any wardrobe, and this necklace will delight the collector, too.
BTW, if this were marked, it would be priced in the $500 range.
BTW, 10% of every sale goes to World Vision to help improve the lives of impoverished communities.
