UP FOR SALE: This vintage studio art pottery vase features a substantial hand-thrown stoneware body with beautiful layered earth-tone glazes. The form is amphora-inspired with a rounded shoulder, short cylindrical neck, and two decorative lug handles. The glaze treatment is particularly striking, with a reactive iron red and burnt orange upper field flowing into mossy green tones below. The transition creates a natural volcanic or lava-like effect, enhanced by tiny glaze bubbles and speckling typical of high-fire studio pottery. The surface has excellent depth and texture that changes with lighting. The piece has a heavy, thick-walled stoneware construction and feels very substantial in the hand. It appears to be hand-thrown and kiln fired, likely dating to the late 20th-century studio pottery movement when earthy reactive glazes were widely explored by independent ceramic artists. There is no visible maker?s mark, so the artist is unknown. Approximate size: about 9.5 inches tall (see ruler photo for exact measurement). Condition is very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks observed. The felt pads on the base were added later to protect surfaces and can easily be removed if desired.
