Why is usps retail ground no longer available in the shipping calculator?

I was making a change to the listing I have for a lamp in my booth, and while looking at it I noticed there was no shipping method selected. I had the weight and box size in there, but no method was selected, and I knew I had listed it with Retail Ground. So I tried to fix it and then noticed that Retail Ground isn’t even an option I can select. I can only select Priority Mail (or higher). The difference between Retail and Priority for this item is like $40! Nobody is gonna pay that.

So, I went to a couple of other items that I knew I’d offered as Retail Ground, and the option wasn’t there, either. Every item I’d listed with Retail Ground just has no shipping method selected, so the buyer would have to message me for a shipping quote and, I guess have me send them an invoice?

I had someone buy an item with Retail Ground shipping just two weeks ago, so whatever has changed has been recent. Anyone know what’s up?

even though USPS still offers it, they unfortunately it is not an available option for all locations in their webtools that bonanza uses to calc shipping….and does not show as an option until a zipcode is entered…best bet would be to give a flat rate for the item

sorry..I started 2 different sentences at once there…(remove the “They”)

It’s a $20 item. Retail Ground is like $62 and Priority is $110. May as well not bother with it at all.

And I don’t understand how it is that I sold something 2 weeks ago on Bonz with Retail Ground. Also, I list stuff pretty much every day, and it’s been available as an option to select until today. All the items I selected it on are the ones that now just don’t show any shipping. It’s weird.

Sad to say, but I’ve been trying real hard to crack down on not buying items of more weight…..unless I can put the listing at a good enough profit margin. I miss the days of lower shipping.

Rampage, I was just looking in your booth at the pumpkin head necklace and that one says unspecified shipping and there was a onsie baby listing that said the same. I imagine those are first class but said unspecified. Thought I’d let you know.

Hi Empress – Ha ha that old necklace and baby onesie have been in my booth literally since my son was in the 6th grade, and he graduated university last week. LOL! Thanks for the reminder that I need to go clean stuff out… ;)

I just sold something on Bonanza two weeks ago with Retail Ground shipping, though.

It is there..but the retail ground will appear as an option but only after zip code is added..really hate that since we cannot offer is in orginal selection of options. USPS webtools at times are not so great.

RummageRampage May 03, 2019

Hi Cindy – I’m confused. How can retail appear as an option after the zip is entered if I never offered it because I couldn’t offer it? If that makes sense. LOL. Like, there are items where I intentionally don’t offer retail because I only have PM boxes on hand. Buyer will get retail option anyway?

I have not seen “CALCULATED” usps retail ground option for almost a decade here.
They may have a flat charge (non-Priority) but none for “Calculated”.
I have been asking for it for YEARS (as the Auction site has it) so I know it is available. It does make a BIG difference and people do consider ship costs (but actually they are in the Free Shipping mindset mostly).

If you pad your items price to give out free shipping, then nobody will find it because the cost of the items will be too high and it will fall to the bottom of the list and never get views. Sellers know this but buyers all want free.
If I buy something, I realize the cost of shipping it and am willing to pay a reasonable price for shipping. I would rather price my stuff realistically and then add a realistic ship cost to it.
I try not to make the PO rich on someone elses dime but I need to cover my costs.

They probably changed it because they want people to go in to weigh the item now.
