Silly shipping question about re-using boxes

I should know the answer to this since I’ve been selling for a long time, but I really don’t ship large items all that often.

Normally when I ship in a used box, I take a black marker and mark out all the pre-existing words and bar codes and such that are on it. That seems to be what the post office wants. But this time I sold some bowls, and by the time I bubble-wrapped them to death, they needed a kinda large-ish box. So I got one that suits them perfectly. It came from my corner McDonald’s and it’s a box that they receive their little paper baskets for fries in.

The problem with this box is that the lettering on it is really kinda big, and it’s in quite a few spots. I’ve been sitting in front of the TV black-marking for like the last 15 minutes, but… If I have to mark out everything on this box, it’s going to take me an hour and use up a whole marker!

So, do I really have to do this? Would it be okay if I only marked out the bar codes? I mean, it’s not like a mail carrier is going to get confused in some way because the box says “Global Quality 6 oz Fry Carton” on it… Right? Please say I don’t have to do this… Lol. ;)

It’s probably too late for you now, but this is what I do. Turn the box inside out and then re-glue the one edge. Let it sit under weight until glue is dry. Works great.

TOTALLY slapping myself on the forehead for not thinking of turning the box inside out. Lol. But thanks! ![URL removed]

If You HAVE to use this particular box, wrap it with a new roll of packaging paper (it’s not expensive) and You will have at least a proper outside look of the parcel.

Personally, I would not use the box, You’ve described. Maybe You can adjust and use 2 clean boxes?

Thanks for the reply. But ugh… I don’t have any packing paper (nor do I have a car to go get any), and also my post office has told people in front of me that they aren’t supposed to wrap boxes in paper because it can tear… Is that not true?

And no, none of the Priority Mail boxes I have around here will go together in a way that fits this. This box is very clean, though. So, I have to black out all of it?

Duct tape is faster than marking out the lettering.
