I’ve got this vintage dress by Sears Loungewear and it has this long tail or tie coming down the front from one side of the collar, but there is no matching tie on the other side, and no button or buttonhole or anything that would let you connect it.
Does anyone know what would be done with this tail? Or could it maybe help in dating this piece?
Any help appreciated!!

Look closer at the opposing side and see if one side is missing a sash. Sounds like it might have been a long sash like someone could tie a big bow in – vintage lounge wear and nighties and nighties often had them and sometimes they were very long. If there’s no evidence of a matching other half of the tie on the other side then it could be just about anything.

I found it… there actually is a tie on the other side but I didn’t see it because it was stuck in the sleeve… I was too caught up in trying different things with the one sash to figure out what it was…

I was thinking the one tail could be used for tying your pony-tail up for bedtime…being you found 2—that would be for pigtails [coming out of the sides of your head]— a al Willie Nelson—I’ve seen pix of him in his loungwear with his long pony tails tied up with these tails or tie-things….But, getting back to dating your loungwear—I don’t see how its’ tail could help you date it!? And, why would you want to??? I must be getting old…you kids are up to some wild stuff these days…
