Vintage Unicorn Scrimshaw Brooch Pin Sterling Silver Artist Signed Fantasy Mythology Magical Mythical Horned Horse Etched Animal Design Oval Shape Frame Decorative Wearable Art Artisan Signature "T" This is a lovely and detailed scrimshaw Unicorn head brooch or pin. The Unicorn has a gorgeous flowing mane and a lovely horn, it is quite majestic. Scrimshaw is an artistic style of engraving or etching which can include the use of natural and man-made materials. I think the material used in this brooch is some type of manmade composite such as Corian or a high quality resin to replicate the real thing, but I don’t know the composition for sure. It is etched and colored with a black ink. It is framed by a silver bezel that is signed on the back “Sterling” but has not been tested so I cannot guarantee the silver content. It is signed on the front by the Artist with the letter "T", I have not been able to identify the artist. It measures approximately 1 inches across and 1 inches tall. It weighs .35 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 9.92 grams. It is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. There are no chips or damage to the piece and the clasp works just fine. I have not polished the silver as many people prefer the patina that forms with age. I will leave any cleaning up to you. It will look great on a sweater or blouse with your favorite pair of jeans for that casual chic look. It is really a beautiful piece or wearable art.
