Item description
COFFINITE
Natural Uranium Rock
Weight: 5.6 Oz. Radiation: 85,900. CPM
$70.00 plus $12.80 shipping
This rock was found during October 2025
at the Jurassic Canyon uranium field, located
18 miles NW of Grants NM. Grants was the
center of USA uranium mining from 1950 until
1989; Two mining companies are now involved
in applying to reopen their mines because the
world price of uranium has risen this decade.
Recently, rock-buyers have made jokes about
Coffinite uranium rocks, that the name
suggest burial boxes; maybe the person who
discovered Coffinite could have had a short
lifespan. That guess is INCORRECT;
Coffinite uranium was discovered by
American geologist Reuben Clare Coffin, who
lived to the age of 86 years (1886-1972);
everyone will agree that 86 years is a full
lifetime, NOT shortened by rocks' radiation!
Coffinite often occurs in ore deposits that
are accompanied by Uraninite (Pitchblende).
Both minerals, Coffinite and Uraninite, are
widely found at Jurassic Canyon, and at
other mineral areas of Utah or Colorado.
Uranium rocks can only be shipped to USA
mailing addresses, because of a strict rule by
the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
