It was prospected during June 2021. Its activity level is in the faster range, relative to other similar natural rocks and above that of FiestaWare red plates. Its response rate is approximately 1.7 times that measured from FiestaWare ceramic dinner plates crafted during the FiestaWare uranium era, 1936-1943. The white dot, seen in photos, identifies the surface area with fastest activity. NAME OF THIS URANIUM CANYON The previous location name, Poison Canyon, was misleading. The older location name had nothing to do with either uranium or radioactivity. This canyon has several non-radioactive minerals (e.g., selenium, arsenic) that are toxic if eaten by livestock such as cattle or sheep. The new name, Jurassic Canyon, is geologically and historically correct, because the massive amount of uranium ore was released to the surface here from the Mt. Taylor active volcano during the Jurassic Era, when dinosaurs were common. In June 2021, I found TWO fossilized juvenile velociraptor skulls, both highly radioactive. If I find a third radioactive dinosaur fossil, I will invite paleontologists (dinosaur scientists) from Univ. of Chicago or from Yale Univ. to join me here at the canyon, to prospect for more. WHAT TYPE OF MINERAL IS THE ROCK? It is likely Jurassic todilto limestone uranium, the most common uranium-bearing mineral at this uranium field. During the Jurassic era, 200 million to 146 million years ago, the canyon was a large lake. When dinosaurs drowned in the lake, their carcasses were fossilized. Today, the Northwestern Cliffs at the canyon are part of the famed Morrison Formation, known for rich deposits of uranium and dinosaur fossils. Advice from geologists who can identify this ore more precisely will be appreciated. The uranium canyon is approximately 20 miles NW from Grants NM. It is part of the "New Mexico Uranium Belt;" 65% of all uranium ore ever produced in the USA came from mines located within 60 miles of this site. This handsome rock was made in USA!
