Hi,
Would someone know where I might research and find the values of a large group of National Geographic magazines I have? Or perhaps you are already a collector who might not mind helping me understand what I have here?
As best as I can remember, they date back to the late 30’s or early 40’s and they go up to 2009 or so. Some are in excellent condition while some are just ok.
I would like to sell them on Bonanza but I am unsure if I should sell them in groups by each year or one at a time. What would be the best way to present them that may attract the most potential buyers?
Also shipping, would they be safe from damage if they were shipped via media mail or should I do something special to protect them?
I really know nothing about handling this kind of merchandise so I would really appreciate any help I could get with this.
Thank you!

I have seen them listed as a year group for $19.99 But they were nit really as old as what you have

The older the better. There are millions of them.

Probably better to sell year lots. But I’d pull out the really collectible ones. Like the 1969 one with the recording of the moon landing. I imagine something like that, if it still has the record and is in good condition would sell at collectible prices.

If you do list and sell them as a lot, I think you would be better off shipping with UPS, because of the weight.

I don’t believe you can ship magazines of any kind Media Mail.

Media Mail is the cheapest and sometimes slowest way to ship. If your customer does not mind waiting, ship Media Mail. Sometimes it doesn’t even take that long. You must follow Media Mail guidelines. See them [URL removed]

Magazines have advertising in them, therefore do not qualify for media mail.
Unless they are quite old, or very historically significant, they (actually many magazines) are not worth a ton. Kennedy’s assassination or other events of the last 50 years or so are so mass produced, and mass saved, that they really hold little collectible value… sorta like…everyone has one, because they thought they would be valuable some day.

National Geographic magazines were widely purchased and saved as well. Only the real early ones command any value, and condition is everything with them.
The 30’s and 40’s ones have some nice Coca-Cola ads in them, if any one still collects them.
Like it was suggested here above, probably sell them in year lots. Higher values for older ones and less for the newer ones (cause everyone else is trying to sell them too).
Good luck with whatever you decide to do with them.

Have always seen a lot of old ones in new mint condition (as far back in the 70’s) selling anywhere for just 10 cents – 25 cents but have also noticed they do not sell well, UNLESS you consider selling them in bulk, like 3-5 to a bulk to avoid high shipping costs maybe?
They are definitely a quality magazine everyone would enjoy.
Since the holidays are nearing, perhaps gift-giving some issues to a particular person that would appreciate them; example, someone you might know going on a trip to South America or a rock climber heading out to climb the next highest mountain, etc> then select a topic issue as a holiday stocking stuffer?
Good luck on your National – Geographics research adventure!

I very successfully sold several single issues on eBay several years ago, but in recent years have had no luck selling any & I have 1930’s – 1950’s issues. The shipping costs really affect the selling of these magazines. It seems everyone had National Geographic so there are countless magazines out there, with lots of them in mint condition.

I also have a bunch from 40s-50s and was thinking of pulling the ads out to sell separately as some of the Coke ones sell for $5 or more each.

Hello Grandma, Having sold and tried to sell National Geographic for a number of years I can tell you that only the pre 1940 magazines have values that can be more then the cost to ship. You can not ship magazines as Media mail the P.O. is really sensitive about that which makes them a hard sell on the internet. Good luck with your sales……….Fathertime
