TPF members are trusted to only sell Authentic handbags and no fakes!! I hate fakes!

tPF is a wonderful resource for asking about potential purchases as well as items you already bought. Also, since it’s a seller’s responsibility to verify authenticity of items before listing them, it’s also a good resource to confirm that items you want to sell are authentic.

Without sounding pessimistic though, please be warned that there is no vetting process involved in becoming a tPF member. Anyone who registers is accepted.

Therefore, claiming to be a tPF member doesn’t guarantee that your seller is honest. Most members are passionate with regard to fakes and most are honest buyers and sellers.

But because anyone can become a member (or even claim to be a member even if they are not), buyers should still do their homework when planning a purchase.

I hope this helps.

Not to mention that selling fakes is illegal and in some states can be a felony depending on the value! A raid was recently made on a “selling district” in the area and they picked up bunches of them. It’s not worth getting caught and the possibility of a felony, in my opinion. Thanks @Antiques for explaining what TPF means.

Also—Tpf is a huge forum, so it is also a super resource for finding out about/authenticating jewelry and other accessories—not just purses. I highly recommend it! :)

the Purse Forum is a great site to have high-end items check for authenticity and it’s free. Many members are very knowledgeable and can spot a fake right off. If unsure of authenticity of any high-end items, post a picture there and most likely, someone will help you. I visit there once in a while and only when eBay (Shoes, Purse, and Accessories board/forum) can’t help me with something.

Hello everyone, I am a newbie to the form. I want to add my two cents. Being an educated buyer also protects one from fraud. What I have found when reading guides of sellers who claim to be experts because they own a few bags, sometimes I find the information to be erroneous. I research several sources and look for consistency then I call Coach, Dooney & Bourke or whomever to verify what I have found. Sometimes, depending on the designer, they won’t give any information for fear of giving away trade secrets. Authenticity is in the details and realize there are exceptions to every rule that is why the buyer should do their homework before purchasing any product outside an authorized dealer.
