Luda said it all –
and Volkswanderung is to be translated as
Mass People’s hike – or People’s walking-tour
not so much a march (-ing band… LOL)
Just like a ‘march for Cancer awareness’ here… or similar.
But these Volkswanderungen were for fitness and fun.

If you turn it into a necklace – give it a matching white and green checker cloth band.
Bavarian colors are white and blue though…. but checkers … or ‘checker’?
It should be worn close to the neck. Not hanging down…

This is a medal earned by one of the Volksmarching removed] Participant in 1973. Less frequently used terms are Volkswanderung and Volkswalk. Postau removed] is a municipality in the district of Landshut in Bavaria in Germany and the medal has something to do with it.
I found many different medals from that event on the web but i have not seen one like yours (very nice). Click here removed] to see more examples.

Thanks so much for your reply, luda777 and European Goods. I also searched the web and didn’t find one like this one. I love this one. If no one buys it, I’m going to take the ribbon off and make it into a pendant. The medal is so beautiful!
