“Combine the weight of items from the same order together when calculating shipping costs.”
Provided the size of box required doesn’t change, this would work nicely. BUT … When combining items for buyers to save on shipping fees, not only the weight changes, but in some cases the size of box required to ship changes.
Canada Post (along with other services, if not mistaken), not only use weight, but dimensional weight as well. Several small items can weigh the same as a large box of light weight items. However, the price for shipping a larger box, isn’t going to be the same. Is this option only for flat rate boxes? I can’t see how it would help for larger items like, toys?
Also …
As a Canadian, my option for general post shipping [URL removed] “International.” The shipping calculator used on the site, is based off the USA’s, USPS general postal rates, correct? I assure anyone reading, as a Canadian seller, using USA based postal service rate calculators to determine the cost of shipping, from Canada—would earn the loss my shirt, before I even got started. It is no secret, shipping within Canada, or to anywhere from Canada, is much higher than shipping from the USA.
How will this calculator (if based off USA postal services rates), keep me from having to rectify each order’s shipping costs?
Where, and how is it suggested a seller go about doing this, without creating an issue?
Is there a way to link buyers to Canada Post’s rate calculator? If not, why not?
An option to add a seller’s home country rate calculator seems doable, in the age of—3D body part regeneration printing … Just sayin’.

Shipping in the USA has now become a challenge to combine some items in order to save the buyer any money IN SOME CASES. USPS in their January 2016 price increase to packages shipped within the USA sorta introduced dimensional pricing for boxes over 1 cubic foot in size now.
Many of my items vary in size, weight, and shape so it is impossible to consider all combinations of pricing for combined shipping here. I just include in my description that “I will work with you to ship anything combined as inexpensively as I am safely able to in order to save you money and NOT make the PO rich on YOUR DIME”. If you pay with Paypal, for all immediately, I will then just refund back to your Paypal account any ship overage you were charged if I am able to save you any money. I usually just eat the extra cost for shipping that Bonanza charges in fees.
I dont think that customers really grasp that larger boxes weight more (just empty) so that adds ship weight depending on what ships with what else. Some of my smaller items, I can ship at very little to no cost if combined but sometimes just an ounce or two will kick the package to the next pound of ship weight. Like you said, there is more to it in the overall picture.
