What is the best way to store autographed baseballs?

I have several autographed MLB baseballs and also some game used balls that I want to properly store. What is the best way to preserve them?

We recommend storing balls in a plastic bag or “globe” to keep finger dirt and oils from causing further damage to the autographs. When handling balls, only the seams should be touched (Long-term storage in plastic is not recommended).

Keep them in a sealed, round display cube out of direct sunlight for sure…sunlight degrades the ink. Handle them only with cotton gloves and as little as possible. A temperature and humidity controlled environment is best. Too hot/dry will dry out the leather, and too cold/moist will lead to mildew/mold. Or, you could just send ’em to me!?! :)

Always use a globe or cube to keep the ball in. It’s best to have a UV protected one if possible.

Always keep autographs out of the sunlight and they can even fade from a lamp in your house. And certainly don’t use a spotlight on them! Once an autograph starts fading it’s hard to stop.

Also keep the balls out of extreme heat and humidity, never storing items in an attic, basement or garage.

Depends on the year of the baseballs also. Really old ones, early 1900s are subject to environmental damage just like a book would be. Questions to ask yourself. Materials used in making the baseball, value.. who’s autograph, ect, and age of course.
