I dont think so. IBM bought Symantec and the head of it, Peter Norton left. Many people hate Norton now, and would rather have Mcaffee. Some of the PC websites state that after Norton left the product development went downhill and the resulting program is almost worthless.
I have Norton, and I dont like it. It is still a CPU resource hog, and seems far more complicated than the junk it is supposed to protect me from.

McAfee Internet Security 2007 and Symantec Norton Internet Security 2007
Longtime rivals in the realm of security suites produce worthy upgrades for the new year. Copied this from PC World so, I believe that they are not the same.

Hate Norton. Screwed up the functionality of most of my programs. It takes over your system and protects you from being able to effectively use your own computer. I used it for about two days and then deleted it off my machine and reinstalled McAffee. McAfee is intrusive, also, but it does give you options for turning off all the crud you don’t want installed. Too bad about Comcast changing programs, that’s a really stupid move on their part because they are going to have millions, if not billions, of very unhappy campers.

I don’t know if they are the same but I do know instead of purchasing a product, I went to Microsoft and downloaded (for free) their Security Essentials program and it is protecting my computer and saving me money!!

Just a thought

Comcast is my provider and they are switching to Norton from McAfee. I like McAfee much better. It’s included in the service so I guess I’ll go with Norton.

I don’t know, but I would like to say that I use Norton 360 and love it. I’m not sure why people say they hate it as it’s never given me a problem in the past several years I’ve used it.

I agree with Just Stuff. I have used Norton for years and have never had a problem. You just have to watch them when it comes to renewal. They will do it for you automatically and if you don’t realize and renew yourself you get double-billed. It’s like pulling hens teeth to get that fixed.

I had problems with Trojan Horse threats with McAfee and quit using it. From what I have learned talking to other users is that McAfee is great with Mac products where you don’t have as many holes for the viruses to attack.

I have heard that a lot of people in the business prefer AVG but you have to get the full blown version, not the free download.

My sister swears by Trend Micro. They have free support and a home & business package can be used on up to 5 PCs and are a lot less $$$ than Norton.

My Norton expires in a month and I am seriously considering trying Trend Micro.

No I do not believe Norton, and McAfee to be the same. I have used both of them, but over time I switched to using AVG. Never had a problem with this. As many know you cannot just rely on an anti virus program either, but should also have some other little goodies that help in all of the processing of upkeeping our computers. Anyway, it is free, and still ranks in reviews with CNET download. When I wish to consider a change, or am considering adding a program of sorts I check with cnet download to see the ratings with the item, what others say, and if it is a free one, or a paid for item.

I used to have McAfee, but my computer ran slower than slow with it. I now use Norton and can say so far I am much happier with it than with McAfee. Both of my kids and self have switched back to Norton and are very happy with it. We have Windows Vista and Windows XP.

When I first got my computer a few years I was going to subscribe to McAfee, but when I sent them my credit card info everything disappeared! I called them on their hotline and they told me they did not receive it. I asked them where the heck my credit card number went to and they had no answer, I quickly went to Nortons and have been very happy with it ever since.

I do not think so, I do not like Nortons myself, but happy with McAffee

McAfee and Norton/Symantic are NOT made by the same Company. I have used both but I prefer McAfee on all my computers. I do turn off some of the features lilke instant messaging monitor and privacy monitor to reduce the memroy hog factor a bit.
If youu dont have a preference and you are happy with what you are using it may be to your advantage to go with whatever original company is installed on your system becasue, simply because it can be difficult for non IT Brained people to get to the old one totally remmoved and the new one installed.
I Would not rely upon the Microsft built in software though, – they sell operating systems, not security software – hence the security is not nearly as good and up to date as a paid for program.

Good afternoon everyone. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am looking for good AV software for my tablet. Can you tell me is Avast good for Android? [URL removed] I have read several reviews on that. It seems reliable and trustworthy but I still have some complaints. Please, share if you have ever had an experience with it.
