Heart's Reflections is a two-disc studio album by American jazz trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith. The album was released on May 16, 2011 via Cuneiform Records label. Smith?s large ensemble, Organic, made their first appearance on his 2009 Spiritual Dimensions record, but this is the group?s first set of studio recordings. Along with Smith?s trumpet and electric trumpet, the group features two saxophones, up to four electric guitarists, one upright and one electric bassist, a violinist, and two members performing on laptops. Somewhat reminiscent of the Mahavishnu Orchestra or even the orchestral leanings of Frank Zappa?s Hot Rats ensemble, their music can veer from mystic spirituality to abstract expressive free jazz to funk, to pulsing psychedelic electronic fusion. There are nearly two hours of music on this double cd masterpiece, and each musician is given plenty of time for extended solos. The first cut alone, which is dedicated to the great Don Cherry, is a 20-minute funk jam that is worth the price of the cd by itself.
