All of Singer's early attachments were well-designed and made to last. This Adjustable Hemmer is the earlier of two versions of this attachment. This version has a removable slider to allow for sewing wider hems (the later version pivots and swings to the side to accommodate wider hems). Because the slide is removable, many are separated and slider, screw and tiny pointer are lost. Many of these slides can be found as spare parts in the wooden Style Boxes of attachments (aka "Puzzle Boxes"). These early hemmers are not engraved with an item number. The later ones will have "Simanco 35931" engraved on the inside of the brace where they are attached to the presser bar of the sewing machine. The Adjustable Hemmer is the attachment that convinced me of how useful attachments are. I am VERY HAPPY to own this earlier Adjustable Hemmer, fully intact and in excellent condition.
