Item description
Brand new factory sealed vhs tape still has long expired special offer sticker on the cover.
Rod Serling's finest hour as writer. The original classic that spawned 4 sequels, two TV series, a re-make and a prequel series. Unfortunately the cover is a major spoiler but I guess by now the story is quite familiar so here goes:
Charlton Heston and other American astronauts are transported through a timeslip or wormhole in space and arrive on a post-nuclear-catastrophe Earth on which the erect walking apes have taken over. The breathtaking visuals of futuristic rock formations create a real sense of an alien landscape.
Charlton Heston is held captive by friendly ape scientists (Kim Hunter and Roddy McDowell) and examined with a mind to the possibility that he might be the 'missing link' in simean evolution, is full of delicate comedy in which rational ape confronts irrational man.
Again the photography grounds the movie, especially the famous ending in which Heston finds the ruined remains of the Statue of Liberty half buried in the sand (and with it the bitter realization that he is on Earth after all), works as a marvellous visual conciet rather than as a message.
John Chambers was awarded an honorary Oscar for 'outstanding make-up achievment'.
