1909 former library maroon hardcover book with library reinforced binding without dj if one existed. Pages have rough-cut ends; clean and crisp, usual library markings. Cover shows some fading but otherwise great. Book is in excellent condition for its age. We ship 6 days a week with free tracking and shrink wrap.

Product description: A collection of poetry by English poet and man of letters Sir Edmund William Gosse 1849-1928 , cataloguer at the British Museum and, later, translator at the Board of Trade DNB 1921-1930, 353-5 . Items laid in include a 2 page A.L.s.from Gosse to Thomas James Wise 1859-1937 , book collector, bibliographer, editor and forger. Wise assembled an enormous collection of English literary works.In 1934, John Carter and Graham Pollard alleged that Wise had dealt in forgeries and had, indeed, himself printed some of them. DNB 1931-1940, 915-7 . In his letter to Wise, Gosse was seeking information about dramatist Sir George Etherege 1635?-1691 . Also laid in are a poem written by Gosse "To Teresa," his daughter; a handwritten version of Dirge to John Ruskin p. 75 of text ; and handwritten At Anstey's Cove on rear of card with the cove's picture. Unopened. Corrections pencilled to poem on p. 64 of text. Note on rear pastedown. Boards scuffed and faded at edges. Label on spine torn at its edges. Tanning on pastedowns and free endpapers. xvi, 112, 2 pages. quarter cloth, paper-covered boards, edges uncut. 8vo.
