Vintage Navajo Sand Painting Rainbow Yei and 48 similar items

Offered is a beautiful vintage handcrafted Navajo-style sand painting featuring a traditional Rainbow Yei (Holy People) ceremonial design. The artwork is created using naturally colored and dyed sand applied to a hardboard panel and is housed in its original wood frame. The reverse is hand-inscribed "Rainbow" with additional artist initials (appearing to be RC or KC), although I have not been able to positively identify the artist. The piece is being sold as artist unknown. The composition features a central Yei figure surrounded by traditional Southwestern geometric motifs in earthy tones of turquoise, black, tan, red, white, and gold. This style of permanent sand painting became popular during the mid-20th century and was produced by Navajo artists for collectors and tourists while drawing inspiration from traditional ceremonial sand painting imagery. Approximate Measurements Frame: Approximately 12" x 12" Condition Good vintage condition. Small chip to one corner of the frame/board (see photos). Minor age-appropriate wear.
