Item description
I am selling a copy of the first American hardcover edition of the memoir BEFORE NIGHT FALLS by Reinaldo Arenas. This book was later adapted into the 2000 drama starring Javier Bardem. The book was written by Arenas, a gay Cuban writer who was persecuted in his native country for his deviant lifestyle, then left it for America in 1980, only to suffer from AIDS and ultimately commit suicide in 1990. Arenas started writing the book while he still lived in Cuba and finished it during the last years of his life. It was published posthumously, first in Spain in 1992 and a year later in America in an English language edition translated by Dolores M. Koch. This edition is the one I'm selling.
The book itself still remains mostly in very good condition. All pages are still clear, firm, and readable. The only problem is the dust jacket, which has a lot of wear and tear as well as some tanning on the spine. Other than that, it's fine.
