Item description
This is an original antique English brass turtle (tortoise) trinket box, dating to the late 19th to early 20th century.
The piece is cast in solid brass with a hinged shell lid forming a small interior compartment, traditionally used as a desk, vanity, or curiosity box. Turtle and tortoise forms were popular in Victorian and Edwardian England, symbolizing longevity, protection, and good fortune.
Notable details:
Solid brass construction
Hinged shell lid with snug fit
Detailed shell segmentation and sculpted legs
Natural, untouched antique patina
Marked "MADE IN ENGLAND" on the underside
The interior shows appropriate age-related wear, consistent with use as a small trinket or keepsake box. The hinge functions properly and the lid closes cleanly.
These novelty animal boxes are collected across multiple categories:
Antique desk accessories
English brass collectibles
Curiosities / cabinets of curiosity
Decorative vanity or jewelry boxes
? Condition: original, unpolished, hinge intact
? Era: circa 1890-1910
?? Material: solid brass
? Guaranteed antique
A charming and highly displayable piece with broad appeal.
