A 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" black and white photo taken in 1936 of the S S Balticia a Swedish Cargo Ship
BALTICIA Owner: Rederi AB Allians, Jonstorp. Build: 1905 at Craig, Taylor Co., Stockton, UK 3,260 dwt. Delivered 1905 as KARA SEA to Sea Transport Co., London. 19 ??: Sold to Arkhangelsk, USSR and renamed DWINA . 1912: Sold to Otto Zelck, Rostock, Germany and renamed ERIC PETERSEN . 1918: Confiscated by the English Government and was sold to Byron Steamship Co. in 1920. London and renamed LORD ERSKINE . Aug. 1922: Collided with the wreck after the battleship MAJESTIC and sunk. Refloated and repaired. 1926: Sold to Rederi AB Alliance, Sweden and renamed BALTICIA .
BALTICIA departured Helsingborg 6/4 1940 for a voyage to Glasgow with full cargo of paper. 9/4 1940: Seized by a Norwegian patrol boat and ordered in to Larvik, Norway where she was confiscated. The ship was later moved, first to Haugesund and then to Stavanger. 13/5 1940: The Swedish crew was ordered to leave the ship and it was taken over by German crew and sailed to Hamburg. During the Swastika she was renamed GOTIA , she was bombed and sunk by Russian airplane off Langfjord, Norway 11/10 1944.
