Item description
SPANISH AMERICAN WAR, U.S. ARMY, CANVAS BREECH COVER FOR SPRINGFIELD KRAG
This is an Original Canvas Action Cover.
Nice original canvas cover. The marking are clear and readable.Well-marked, but faded due to age. Inside cover are stamped arsenal markings, "ROCK ISLAND ARSENAL" to include, "PLACE OVER COCKING PIECE". The inspectors stamp is also present, but difficult to read as it has also faded. The number ?67? is also stamped within the cover and represents the soldiers number. Both rawhide ties are intact and are soft and supple. The lower tie has been replaced. These ties were used for wrapping the tan canvas duck cover tightly about the breech. No rips or tears in the canvas. The stitching is all intact, no fraying. There is a faded stain.
