An Anniversary edition with a nine page explanatory and informative preface by Cecil Chisholm.
An autobiographical novel considered to by Gissing's timeless masterpiece, originally published in 1903, featuring a writer coming into competence and moving to the country where he can now afford to indulge in reading, study, reflection, and observation.
A well-preserved, sweet little anniversary book production.
Former owner's vintage inked name dated 1953 to the upper front end-paper, minute rubbing to the lower spine edge, else very nearly fine in red linen with gilt embossed titles to the spine; in very nearly fine dust jacket with a very short tear to the upper edge of the front panel; original printed 9s 6d price still intact to the front inner flap.
Small octavo, 7.75" X 4.8"; 220 pages.
