Item description
Vintage 1940s?50s Swakara Broadtail Karakul Astrakhan lamb fur coat. Known for its luxurious watered-silk moire texture, this rare fur was used in high-end mid-century couture garments for its light weight, soft leather base, and distinctive sheen.
The coat features a stunning black, blue, and gold striped silk taffeta lining with hand-stitched detail and monogram ?JNJ.? Two decorative frog closures at the front. Hand made, beautifully tailored, and a striking example of mid-century fashion.
Condition: The silk lining is clean and intact, showing minimal wear for its age. The fur is still soft and drapes well, but there are areas of pelt separation, some thinning/loss of fur, and visible age-related wear (see photos). A professional furrier could restore it, or it may be repurposed for costume, design, or textile projects. Still presents beautifully when worn as-is, with a dramatic vintage look.
An extraordinary historical piece ? perfect for collectors of vintage luxury, theater/costume use, or designers seeking authentic materials.
AS IS AS SHOWN ? Please check out all the pics and zoom in for the best look. Photos tell the story better than I ever could! Thanks so much for looking!
