Item description
This striking vintage postcard captures a powerful image of the Mount St Helens volcanic eruption, showcasing a massive plume of ash and smoke billowing from the snow-covered peak. The image is a photographic print by the U.S. Geological Survey, documenting the historic eruption that occurred on May 18, 1980. The postcard features the title "Mount St Helens" prominently on the front, along with a stylized volcano icon, enhancing its collectible appeal for enthusiasts of natural disasters and geological events.
On the reverse, detailed text explains the eruption event, highlighting the 5.1 magnitude earthquake that triggered the north flank avalanche and the subsequent lateral eruption that sent ash over 12 miles into the air. The card was designed and distributed in 1991 by Impact, Woodinville, WA, and printed in Korea. It is an original printed lithograph on chrome paper, continental size (6 x 4 inches), and remains unposted, making it a great addition for collectors of volcanic memorabilia, historic postcards, or natural history themes.
