P. Servilius M.f. Rullus

The gens Servilia, or Serveilia, was an Alban family, transferred to Rome, after the destruction of Alba, by king Tullus, and elected into the patrician order. It became divided into many branches.
Silver Denarius. 18 mm, c. 3.9g. Rome mint, struck c. 100 BC.
Obverse: Bust left of Minerva wearing crested Corinthian helmet.
Reverse: P?SERVILI?M?F Victory in biga (two horse chariot) right; in right field, "P".
The letter "P" indicates the source for the precious metal used in the striking of this issue. The mintage was a special one, for silver from the public treasury ( Publice ) was utilized.
NGC Certified and Graded Very Fine. attractively toned.
