Item description
MR. BONE'S RETREAT.
By Margaret Forster.
New York: Simon Schuster, (1971).
First American edition, first printing.
"First U.S. printing" statement to the copyright page.
Feminist and Royal Society of Literature Fellow, and author of the film-adapted novel GEORGY GIRL.
A well preserved collectible first edition in dust jacket.
Delightful and rewarding story, with the marvelously developing character of William Bones, who has been enjoying his solitary, fussy, and controlled life, until he takes in a pregnant couple, who have incomprehensible needs and turmoils, and don't seem to pay rent.
He changes bit by bit and becomes involved, melting his loneliness that stemmed from selfishness.
Black remainder mark to the lower page edges, else fine, square, tight and firm in sturdy green lime-linen boards with black embossed titles and decorations to the spine, deckle page fore-edges; in a near fine dust jacket with art by Graham Percy, with a tiny scuff to the front panel's upper edge, a nick at the upper rear flap-fold and a touch of yellowing to the spine panel; original $6.95 printed price still intact to the front inner flap.
