Here Sequoyah was to become one of the greatest Indians who ever lived by his invention of an alphabet with which the people of the Cherokee Tribe were enabled to read ?talking leaves? after only a few days of study. Here on July 16, 1863, at Honey Springs was fought the greatest and most decisive battle of the Civil War in Indian Territory. Here Belle Starr was to reign as "the outlaw queen? before U.
