About The Record:
Just for the Record, by John Durrill, is a notable album from the former Ventures keyboardist and prolific songwriter, showcasing his transition from band member to solo artist. The album features a blend of rock and pop with tracks like The Woman In 209 and Smoke On The Far Horizon, reflecting Durrill?s knack for crafting melodic, accessible tunes. While the album itself did not chart significantly, it holds historical importance as a product of Durrill?s diverse career, which included writing hits like Dark Lady for Cher and Misery and Gin for Merle Haggard. No singles from Just for the Record achieved notable chart success, but the album remains a collector?s item for fans of Durrill?s work with The Ventures and his songwriting legacy. Its release during the late 1970s places it within the era?s shift toward softer rock and crossover sounds, aligning with Durrill?s evolving musical style.
