Item description
This rare Victorian Civil War Dictionary from 1863 was recently discovered and is a must-have for any militaria collector. The book is from the early Era of the California House of Representatives This original piece is a true gem for those interested in American History, old books, rare dictiobaries, Lincoln Era collectibles and the Civil War and its history.
I have 2 theories on this ENORMOUS dictionary.
1. It belonged to Frederick Ferdinand Low who was born in Maine and became 1 of the 3 first Representatives of California and when he died it came back to Maine.. which is where this book has been for at least 75 years.
2. It belonged to Aaron Augustus Sargent who was 1 of the 1st 3 Representatives of California and was born in Massachusetts (where this book was printed and published) and when he died this book made its way to New England and into Maine.
It's hard to say which.
The logo/emblem says House of Representatives CA
This would have been in holding after California was given its first reps. And during the height of the civil war and Lincoln's presidency.
The book is very very beat up on the cover and spine. View pics for more details
But the pages are fantastic with some staining and foxing
***Disclaimer on old/vintage/antique books/paper and the like:
Some wear from age, use and storage which may or may not include some, none or all of the following: writing/personalized notes on inside covers and title pages(or notes on pages in the case of songbooks and sheet Music), small tears, creasing, etc.... all typical Vintage and antique book wear.
See top of description for any outstanding flaws.
