Bush was born in Milton, Massachusetts, raised in Greenwich, Connecticut, and attended Phillips Academy before serving in the United States Navy Reserve as a pilot during World War II before graduating from Yale. Following Yale, Bush relocated to West Texas, where he started a successful oil company. Bush was elected to the United States Congress in 1966 before being appointed as the ambassador to the United Nations by Richard Nixon. Bush ran for president in 1980 before Reagan won the Republican nomination and brought Bush into his campaign as vice president, where he would serve out two terms.
