MacLean Robert Clarke Co., 1887 Second Edition Condition: Very Good+ to Near Fine This book is "an account of a remarkable people that once inhabited the valleys of the Ohio and Mississippi, together with an investigation into the archaeology of Butler County, Ohio". Illustrated with 64 figures. First published in 1879, this is the second edition of an important early study of an ancient North American culture and its earthworks. The large fold-out map of Butler Co., Ohio, is still attached at the back of the book with just some edge/corner creases. Tightly bound with bright, unfaded covers and spine. Modest cover corner fraying and a few other minor touches of exterior wear. The pages are only somewhat tanned. There is a small private library sticker on the front end paper, a name and date written on a blank page and a bit of pencil writing on a text page. Overall, though, this is one of the loveliest copies of a 19th century book I've seen. The price has been reduced by 20%.
