The filter is part of the exhaust system used when drying laundry. Warm air circulates inside the dryer drum to dry the clothes. The air is vented outside through an exhaust vent. This filter inside catches lint and debris and prevents it from clogging the exhaust tubes. When the lint filter is clogged, the dryer will not work as efficiently, and it will take much longer to dry laundry.
