Item description
THE GHOSTS' OF HIGH NOON:
A Detective Novel
by John Dickson Carr.
New York: Harper Row, Publishers, (1969).
First edition, first printing.
"First edition" statement to the copyright page, $5.95 and date code 1169 to the jacket's flap.
Set in 1912, this well-plotted mystery features a successful novelist and journalist who is sent to New Orleans for an assignment on a man running for Congress, and instead he finds mystery, shady powerful characters, loose culture, dark deeds, politics, weapons, and murder.
Former owner's name to the front end-paper, light rubbing to the upper and lower spine edges, else about near fine in gray linen over slate-gray boards with silver-gray titles to the spine, gray end-papers, deckle page fore-edges; in a very good plus dust jacket with eerie and evocative art by Amy Isbey to the front and rear panels, with mild crimp-creases to the upper and lower front panel ends, and with rubbing and minuscule tears to the upper and lower spine edges and corner tips; original printed $5.95 price still intact to the front inner flap.
(NO red remainder 'R' stamp, commonly seen to the front end-paper)
