Tommy Armour 855s Silver Scot 3-SW, 9 Club Set RH Stiff Steel Shaft - 1995
An 845s Oversize 3 Iron and a 858c knockoff PW have been added to complete the set.
Moderate offset helps square face at impact
Stainless steel construction provides long lasting durability
Maximum perimeter weighting creates larger sweet spot
Lightweight steel shafts
In the late 1980s (1987), Tommy Armour Golf released the original 845 Silver Scot irons. These irons are still traded heavily in today?s world mostly in the used market having being manufactured throughout the 1990s. The 845 Silver Scot features uninformed stainless steel construction with a balanced cavity back which makes them slightly toe-weighted. The 845's were stocked originally with True Temper steel shafts and later with graphite shafts. It includes a 2-iron through sand wedge, each refined offset. The brand also designed oversized versions. Novice and beginners players on a budget are what the Tommy Armour clubs including the 845 sets were designed for.
Tommy Armour 845 Silver Scots have a comfortable and soft feel, a mid-sized clubhead with their cavity balance. The sole moves swiftly through the golf ball as they also have a nice bounce. Long irons (2-to-5-iron) are capable of delivering excellent-to-superb distance and are strong shot-shapers. On the other hand, the short irons offer solid spin, are precise, and deliver nice penetrating trajectories
The Tommy Armour 845 Silver Scots are a bit small, just like other mid-sized clubs of 1990s and 1980s, which will definitely give an average player a slight lack of confidence. Players with fast, jerky swing tendencies complained that the long irons are not too forgiving, making their antiquated game-improvement noticeable.
The Tommy Armour 845's were the sole golf club, at the time, which competed with the Ping Eye 2?s for dominance of the iron market sector in the late 1980s and early? 90s, in which more than 600,000 sets have been sold. The original Tommy Armour 845 Silver Scots are extremely affordable to handicap golfers who wanted golf clubs that would offer a great golfing experience. We?ve come to the end of this informative article, we hope you were able to get all the information you wanted to know about Tommy Armour golf clubs.
The 855s irons are a slightly oversize cousin to the 845 Silver Scot irons, which I also own. The 855s has a progressive offset, larger sweet spot and is more forgiving on mis-hits. It is an excellent game improvement iron. Low handicappers would probably appreciate the smaller 845 for it's ball control abilities. For used clubs, it's hard to beat the 855s. Typically, you can find a decent used set for less than half the cost of a set of used Ping i3 Oversize, IMO, the "holy grail" of used game-improvement irons.
Review: "I started with a set of Tommy Armour 845's and I shot in the 90's I continued practicing with my 845's but didn't like them. I switched to the 855's and have been loving and using them for 2 years now. I'm a scratch golfer and them irons really helped to improve my game. they are well weighted and can sure hit the ball. they are one of the strongest irons and continue to look good after years of use. great irons recommend to anyone who wants to improve there game. but remember this to all you golfers who are trying to buy all the best clubs and think that's how they will improve. You can't buy the game of golf - practice."
"Having played 845s for years, I thought it might be time for a more forgiving club and more swingweight. With old age and a slower swing, I found a fine set of 855s in regular steel, having only to regrip and adjust the lie up (I'm 6'2"). I should have got these five years ago. They look good at address and have a reasonably thin top line. You can work the ball with these, it is much easier to get the ball up in the long irons, and distance has increased by about a club. The wedges play nicely. Let me just add that I have the complete set of original clubs, including driver and woods. I've replaced the driver and 3 wood with modern clubs, but kept the 5 wood (19*) and picked up an original 7 wood (25*). The 5 and 7 woods hit just like modern hybrids, so I leave the 3 and 4 irons at home. I am quite happy with my bag now."
This set is in good condition, there are minimal scratches and dings, have nearly new grips, new looking shafts, as well as almost no groove wear.
These irons will be a great set for many years.
Nine Club Set: 3-SW, Stiff Flex Steel shafts in excellent condition.
Soft and Playable, mostly Tommy Armour Golf Pride Tour Wrap grips
Grooves are sharp, clean, and deep
