Heads up just in case you all do not know

I was just at the post office today and packages that weigh between 14 ounces to 1 pound can no longer ship at first class mail.

Too bad. This came in quite handy during this past year.

14 oz to 16 oz packages within the USA can still ship as first class mail, just not when you go to the post office and pay directly at the counter.

Thanks.

Not sure that that is true in every case. If you ship First Class Package Service, or use PayPal shipping (also through eBay), then you can still print labels for up to 16 oz. I believe that is part of the Commercial Base Pricing (CBP) break that selling sites (that offer shipping labels) get for their sellers.

Personally, I don’t use the Bonanza shipping so I couldn’t tell you if they are limited to 13 ounces or not. For my Benz orders, I go to PayPal and create my shipping labels there.

I think the trick is that you have to use a shipping service like PayPal, stamps.com, endicia.com, or perhaps Bonanza to get the CBP. If you go to the Post Office and do it over the counter, you will be limited to 13 ounces.

I shipped out several 14-15 ounce packages just today using First Class Packaging and PayPal shipping to print the labels.

I’m not referring to first class package service. Just first class mail within the USPS. But I did not know that it is strictly available only on sites like PP.

[URL removed] Meant United States, not USPS.

I always thought anything over 13oz was considered priority.

Irene0536 — used to be until USPS instituted First Class Package Service through CBP services.

I ship anything up to 16oz by First Class on eBay…however on Bonanza the listing does not show a First Class option for 14-16oz. when you put any of those weights in. I cannot figure why. Anyone?

Thanks, Tom.

I did go on the USPS website to check a package at 1 pound after this happened when shipping a package at the post office today. First class mail did not come up as a choice. Maybe the USPS does not operate the same as Paypal then.

This is where a thread should be able to be deleted since now it serves no purpose.

I do not remember First Class Mail ever allowing more than 13 ounces. In fact, before they starting allowing 14-16 on CBP for First Class Packages, I used to have to ship 14 + ounces packages via Priority Mail. I was very happy when they started allowing 14-16 oz.

Last year, at the beginning of the year, the USPS started allowing packages between 14 ounces to 16 ounces ship as first class mail. And I was very happy about that also :)

Apparently you are right. At the post office they must not be allowing us to choose first class mail 14 to 16 oz and instead only online. I just tried a dummy shipping via mulitiorder Paypal shipping and it offered first class for a 15 oz package.

I ran out of ink for my printer. I’m getting some today. What is your abbreviation for CBP stand for?

EmpressDepot says: March 01, 2017

[URL removed] If you are wanting to ship a 1 pound package, enter 16 ounces rather than one pound when not in Multiorder shipping. When in multiorder shipping, choosing exactly 1 pound will allow first class to follow through.

Commercial Base Pricing (CBP)

I was under the impression that the up to 16ounces was only if you paid on the internet, as opposed to at the post office? Not sure, though.

cshort, your impression is right lol. I ran out of ink, took the package to the post office with handwritten address label (16 ounce package) and at the po they would not let it ship at first class mail.
