Bonanza's new fees - is anyone else going to remove most of their listings?

Bonanza just announced a new set of fees rolling out on May 1st. Firstly, a minimum 11% fee on all transactions. Secondly, a fee of $.03 per listing per month will be applied to stores with over 50 listings, capped at a maximum of $20 per month.

I’m a seller who uses Bonanza mainly to back up my eBay listings. I do not rely on Bonanza for most of my sales. I don’t think it’ll be worth it to keep my several hundred listings on the site for $20/month, and will probably remove most of them to stay under the 50 limit.

The charitable part of me is glad that Bonanza is trying to grow, and knows their fees are still less than a lot of other platforms. The less charitable part of me feels like this is yet another bungled attempt to put the cart before the horse and roll out higher fees before they improve anything about the site, just like eBay does (and if you were here when they tried to charge $2 per shipping label as a punishment for not buying the label through the site, you know what I mean). I think this will likely cause many sellers to delete most of their listings or outright leave the site.

Then again, maybe I’m out of touch with how most sellers use this site. So I’m curious, what are your plans moving forward, with these new fees in mind?

I have over 1400 listings on Bonanza…Does this really mean what I think it means? They ar charging me .03 for each listing and now they are gonna start 11% FVF + .25 fee…NOT me…I will be leaving for sure if this is true…

Retail_HARBER says: April 11, 2025

Of our almost 700 listings, we just cut our booth down to the 50 threshold. Our sales don’t warrant a subscription or the 3-cent listing fee. If it did, that would be great. We’ll stick with 50 listings, and hope for the best. Unfortunately, this will negatively impact everyone, Bonanza as well.

Tammies_Treasures says: April 11, 2025

I’m not sure how they think people will go for this when we are lucky to make a small sell a month. Sadly,I think most of the large sellers will leave before Bonanza figure it out.

Fathertime says: April 13, 2025

Been With Bonanza from the beginning 2008, Over 2500 listings. Gold Membership If there is any kind of listing I am gone. Maybe it is time to call it good nighthere is a listing fee

black_narcissus says: April 13, 2025

No more free listings. Just deleted 700+ items, Time to say “Bye-Bye”.

industrial_overstock says: April 15, 2025

I like the platform and understand the need to raise revenue. However I think the limit of 50 free listings is too low. They should at least consider matching eBay and give us 250 free listings. The listing fee is a deal wrecker for me. I’m going to have to reduce the number of listings in my booth.

Lonestarthrifter says: April 29, 2025

100% agreed. Not enough sales from this platform to justify the new fees. I will more than likely drop my 1000 + plus listings to just a few worth paying the new few structures. Bonanza really screwed up. .

Adding listing fees for a site with so little traffic—that’s the nail in the coffin. I always assumed Bonanza was sticking around because they are still making money getting new sellers to pay extra for all those “terrific” services they offer that do nothing to help them sell more.

They are claiming even with the changes, Bonanza remains one of the most affordable online marketplaces, but what they don’t say is they remain one of the lowest selling online marketplaces.

We will be deleting the bulk of our listings too. Sad, because sellers aren’t going to be adding any new products to their booths if they have to pay listing fees and get zero sales here. No new merchandise being added to the site means buyers aren’t going to even look here any more. Even more so than now.

Deleting all but 49 listings.
Setting the “Choose your advertising level” to 0%.

49 listings, FVF 11% with 0 views.
No sales for them now.
Fine by me.
They did this to themselves.

You can have up to 50 listings. You’re charged a listing fee beyond that number.

itsagift says: April 11, 2025

I’ll also be deleting almost every listing. The lowest advertising level I see is 3.5%

mtichenor says: April 15, 2025

I’ll be closing shop. I rarely have a sale on bonanza other than near the holidays, so it is not worth paying $20 a month for the 9 months where there are no sales. Leaving 50 items active to avoid the $20/month fee is not worth the time and effort.

Yep, I’ll be reserving most of my items as well. I have about 650 in each of my booths. The main reason I joined Bonanza was because it was “free to list and you only paid if you sold”. Seems that original business model has ended. So my time here may be ending as well. Sad, I’ve been here since 2009.

Ditto…I will follow….

UniquelyJewellGifts says: April 11, 2025

I have sent a question to Bonanza…+ posted on Google…I will wait a few days to see if they respond…if this is a fact they will be charging .03 per listing…then I will leave Permanently…..I realize they are trying to grow…but they are not going to line their pockets with any sales or List

Lookng2015 says: April 12, 2025

I have 6 stores on here, same as on ebay as I synch them. No WAY I’m paying those fees for what is basically parking space with few sales.

whatsitsgalore says: April 12, 2025

I removed 200 listings today, and will continue until I get below the limit. If I could afford to pay $20 a month, there are a lot of sites I could use, but I avoid them because I can’t make a profit there.

I still cannot believe no one from Bonanza has responded to any of the questions or concerns on here from long time sellers. I halfway understand the weekend, but it has been 2 business days.

the support page is getting regular updates (edits) via Bonanza-Katy

GravityVideo says: April 16, 2025

I see that, but they are just updating the policy everyone is upset about to clarify. I’d expect someone to make one of the blog posts including the info just to get and give direct responses.

Fortress_Lemonade says: April 16, 2025

weird times for sure.. i like the cliff drop of views my booth has gotten in the past 4 days while i steadily have been posting new items. still going w/ original plan, reserve everything April 29th, then wait & see, might have to turn my booth into a ……..cough

Kulamoa says: April 17, 2025

It’s probably because they know it’s a very VERY unpopular decision that they are forcing on people, and they don’t have any satisfying answers to give. Even if they step back on the 50 listing limit, the 11% fee increase will drive many people away.

Fortress_Lemonade says: April 17, 2025

best thing they could do to avert more booths closing & still gain revenue would be to cancel out the listing fee entirely & end the $1.00 off your bill/500 tokens thing. the 11% is easily dealt with via pricing, but hey, 50 free listings is a fun lemonade stand…

8000 items…
2025 sales $1.25
2024 sales $86

The easiest business decision I’ve had to make this difficult year so far.

Two stores will be gone.

answered 28 days ago

I have not received the email from Bonanza, which concerns me. I’ve been a seller here for years. For a while I got a sale or two a month … now I am lucky if I have 2 – 3 sales in a YEAR. Obviously that is not cost efficient to keep a store open at the rate of $20 a month … especially when I do get sales from other sites.

autonutt says: April 12, 2025

This is clearly a money grab to “encourage” free sellers to purchase a $25 or more subscription.. but my sales here don’t even justify the $20 cap on m 2900 listings (down from 4000+ before I started transferring them back to eBay). As a 10+ year seller I’m incredibly disappointed..

birdhousebooks says: April 12, 2025

Autonutt – I am too. I’ve been here since the site was Bonanzle. I like Bonanza and always hoped it would pick up. This move, IMHO, is not going to help that to happen.

Kulamoa says: April 13, 2025

Very good point, @autonutt. It very much feels like a botched, aggressive move to try and get people to purchase subscriptions. My guess is that it’ll backfire.

i received the email too, but we can’t find any mention of it on Bonanza.com…
might be an email scam… maybe wait a few days to see if Bonanza officially announces it in the seller Blog or directly on the website, or debunks it as a scam message
if it is true, yikes….

Definitely not a scam, unfortuantely. At least not in the traditional sense…

Fortress_Lemonade says: April 11, 2025

Kulamoa, many sellers received a ’account suspended ’ message a few months ago on bonanza that Bonanza confirmed was a fake scam message for phishing purposes… i am only suggesting everyone wait to see what is what before taking extreme measures, may 1st is 3 weeks away, plenty of time to wait

Retail_HARBER says: April 11, 2025

Planet_Earth_Toys, this is the email address of the [URL removed] no-replybonanza.com

Retail_HARBER says: April 11, 2025

There is an ampersat (at) between reply and bonanza. But it’s been removed for the post.

Fortress_Lemonade says: April 11, 2025

both Bonanza & Mercari have been sending out warnings about fake phishing emails & messages onsite in the past few months, already screenshotted it & sent it to bonanza so they have a copy, guess we all shall see soon enough

Kulamoa says: April 12, 2025

Thing is, phishing emails typically have a link where you can pay a fee or something similar. That’s what the scam emails sent a while back were like. I don’t see any benefit to a scammer with this recent update email, it’s just an information notice about fees. Unfortunately, it’s real.

Treasures_of_Old says: April 12, 2025

It is on the Bonanza site. https://support.bonanza.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000605292-Bonanza-Pricing

Treasures_of_Old says: April 12, 2025

It is on the bonanza site. Scroll down to “Effective May 1st”. https://support.bonanza.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000605292-Bonanza-Pricing

Fortress_Lemonade says: April 12, 2025

Treasures, you are correct it is posted in the pricing section via that link, but there is no mention of there being a $0.03 per item / $20 maximum per month fee implenting on May 1st. that post does clearly state ‘Bonanza does not currently charge fees per item listed.’, maybe they reconsidered?

Fortress_Lemonade says: April 13, 2025

support page link updated today, everything is confirmed as true, new fee structure, $0.03 per item fees/ $20 max. sad… but it’s their website, Bonanza can do whatever they chose to do & like Bonanza, everyone should choose the path that fits their business model needs.

What first comes to my mind is that they should give more notice. I think that would have been the fair thing to do.

Secondly what comes to mind is that I have no idea where this letter is. I have not been able to find it and it is not in my email either. Can someone please do a copy and paste into a post so that I can read it.

Retail_HARBER says: April 11, 2025

There is a 300 character max for each post, and the email is very long. If Bonanza allowed screenshots, I’d add it. But it doesn’t.

Fortress_Lemonade says: April 11, 2025

it ends with … -→ “Warmly, Bonanza Support Team” it’s from ‘no-reply Bonanza.com’ usually the only ‘no-reply’ is for orders. typically, notices & blog postings have either ‘mailer-10’ or ‘Zendesk’. no mention of it on bonanza.com anywhere yet, i’m not sledgehammering my booth anytime soon

Fortress_Lemonade says: April 11, 2025

so.. Empress did not get the email, sounding like it was a ‘selective few’ who received it in order to cause some chaos.. has anyone checked Bonanza’s Social Media to see if it’s mentioned anywhere? i’m going w/ ‘business as usual’ til april 29th, reserving everything, then waiting to see

Lookng2015 says: April 12, 2025

I couldn’t find any email to any of my accounts and don’t see it on here officially either. Doesn’t matter – I’ll be gone anyway.

Kulamoa says: April 12, 2025

Bonanza is following in the footsteps of other retail sites, that behave like leeches, level arbirary fees on their sellers with little warning and no recourse, and try to make the emails sound as friendly (and subsequently condescending) as possible

Tammies_Treasures says: April 13, 2025

Emperess, did you get the email about youe Bonanza account is secure back around march 6th. I recieved both emails, but it seems some did not recieve either.

Fortress_Lemonade says: April 14, 2025

i received both of those emails too, but in hind-sight… i also received the Account Suspended fake email too….. sooooo hrrrmmmmm (shrugs)

Sounds like Bonanza may not survive this. Unfortunately, if they cannot sell my items with party city closed now, I have no hope that anything will change. Several questions I have asked over the last few days have resulted in nonsense answers from what I can only guess is a bot named “Keith” because a real person would have some pertinent answer. They cannot seem to fix the simplest of issues at this point.
