I would recommend cropping tightly around the actual item (in other words, minimize the white space surrounding the item). Then, make sure that one of the dimensions (height or width) falls between 500 and 800 pixels. A resolution of 72 dpi (screen resolution) is all that is necessary. Google shopping will be happy. BTW, if you end up exporting/publishing your item to eBay, those image settings will satisfy eBay requirements too.

@BookbinEtc, Your photos are fine.
Bonanza [URL removed] “Pictures will automatically be lowered in resolution to be shown in smaller formats (so they don’t take forever to load when there’s a group of them shown). The largest size available for buyers to see is 1600×1200.”
Some other sites recommend at least 1000 pixels wide.
The mentioned above eB [URL removed] “Try to use a photo that is at least 1600 pixels on the longest side [the ideal size]. However, we recommend you don’t enlarge smaller images to make them 1600 pixels. The photos you use must be at least 500 pixels on the longest side.”

I personally like mine at 1200, used to do it at 1000 but felt better at 1200.
Every so often you’ll see some here and there that are smaller in my booth, mainly when I’ve done a screenshot from an image I’ve had for sale on eBay….reasons like that.
