Why have weekends and holidays now been included in shipping times?

We have a shipping profile set up for Priority Mail shipping that shows delivery time on our items on the “shipping options” line. It has been accurate at 5-7 days until this past week. Suddenly the expected arrival date is 10 days! People are inquiring and not ordering if they have to wait that long. I contacted support and was told they had “made some changes” to better reflect when an item will arrive. So anything selling today says it will arrive by Feb 28th because there are 2 weekends included in the shipping time. It was suggested by Bonz that I post this here and on the suggestion (feedback) page so it could get reviewed as the person who handled my inquiry said that he really didn’t know why it had been changed from “business days” (which would be correct). May take that off the site until this is resolved as it is a definite negative for a seller. Check your sites for this change I dodn’t notice until I was contacted by a buyer to inquire about the length of time.

Wow, if I am reading this right Bonanza has their delivery dates showing more realistic timing by not including holiday and non-delivery days in their algorithm.

In most cases that would be a great thing, but it appears to have caused a problem for gearseller2. Which is unfortunate for them. Especially in a tight market.

I agree with Tom that it is usually better for the package to arrive sooner than later than estimated. Because most Buyers don’t really think or know about actual delivery times.

And I endorse realistic delivery dates, that is why all my items are marked as "Unspecified shipping type " and shipping/delivery info is detailed in the listing.

I think anything a Buyer needs by a certain date should be purchased with a guaranteed express shipping option or contact with the Seller to find the best option. This is what I used to do when I wanted to buy some gifts in a hurry.

I just checked the item (see below) and shipping was stated as Priority Mail (2-3 business days) and “Estimated to arrive by Tuesday, February 28th”

[URL removed]

I wonder if they are counting the fact that Monday is a USPS holiday. It would be curious to see what the shipping shows when we check again on Tuesday of next week (2/21).

[URL removed] I just played around with my “handling” time (in the shipping tab of Booth settings). It makes a difference and adds to the estimated delivery time. Have you checked to see if your handling time is set too high?

REVISED 2: I logged out of my account, checked one of my Priority Mail items. It stated 2-3 business days, but indicated that the item was “Estimated to arrive by Friday, February 24th”.

I haven’t changed any of my settings- like I said, new change by Bonz and they told me they have added weekends to arrival time. I login new everyday and it’s been 8-10 days everyday since last week. There is also an addidtion that it “could arrive as early as the 24th” but buyer has to look for it

gearseller2 says: February 18, 2017

The 24th would be correct of course if you ship within a few days which we do. Since Bonz said to raise this issue I’m guessing they realize this change is not one of their better and I hope they fix it very soon. People do not read or really look for things so “could arrive” is not the solution.

No- it’s Bonz chaange- they told me so. Currently says expected 28th, “could be as soon as” the 27th- still wrong. They agree with me that it should be stipulated as business days and to post it here and suggestions for resolution. Will take it off if they don’t change it back. I’ll keep watching-

as Bonanza mirrors a lot of what eBay does, there will be some realistic delivery dates & some not so realistic delivery times. IMHO, extending delivery times is way better than the unrealistic shorter time frames especially for cross border selling. Sellers take the hit even though they have no control over the postal transit/delivery times.

Apple computer always delivers faster than expected delivery time. It’s better to be early than late when shipping to buyers.

Have used Priority Mail for USA and International for 14 years. Very accurate and dependable. It’s all we use.

Mrsdutch, I agree with you. If there are shorter times, and the buyer does not receive the item on that exact day, chances are they will be upset. Many of them do not take into consideration delays, weekend, etc.

ebay is the same way lately. I bought an item on MOnday 2/13 and they showed that it was to arrive by the 2/28. It arrived on Thursday. 2/16.When I saw ebay delivery date I thought it must be a glitch as they have had so many glitches lately.

I’m now thinking of adding “please disregard any delivery arrival dates Bonanza has listed. First Class will arrive 2-3 days, priority 2-5.” to my terms which are listed right under the item description. It is true that most buyers don’t really know what the standard delivery time is for most services.

Thanks everyone for your input- still not sure what I am going to do with this feature. Today it shows anything ordered today will arrive by March 1st (8 days) when, in reality it will arrive no later than February 25th. I think one consideration Bonz left out is that Priority Mail includes Saturday as a delivery day (unlike UPS, FedEx)which cuts down on time. And believe me, when someone orders via Priority Mail they know exactly when to expect it as it is a guaranteed 2-3 business days service. That’s the joy of Priority Mail (plus much cheaper than the other carriers!). So I’m watching and waiting. Really do appreciate the comments and hope this whole discussion helps someone else. Happy selling everyone :-)
