Hello.
Curious to see how you handle the situation of items going, sometimes, a lot less than if it were Christmas or a different holiday. For example, with gift giving items, toys, ornaments, fashion, jewelry, decorations, etc.
Last year at Christmas time I had a box of Legos and they were selling 3x more than what they are for now. Did not list it last year though because there was already too much to do. I was amazed when taking a look at the price difference.
And then there are Hallmark ornaments that go for super cheap out of season. To be honest, for some reason, I’ve never tracked these to see how they do in season compared to out of season.
And then there are the gift-giving items that can be pretty low also, along with fashion and jewelry.
I think supply and demand are crucial but then again even when there is only a small amount of the same items on the internet for sale, I’ve sometimes seen just about all of them priced too low (could be the same with me).
Do you price accordingly at the time you list the item and wait it out to get your price?
Curious to know your answers and information shared. Hope I’ve explained things right but since we have selling in common I think you all will know what I mean.
I think coming up with a price point is hard to do since there is not just the here and now when we list it.

I price my items just slightly under whatever the current going rate happens to be. I don’t sell them, but if I was selling Legos and the price everywhere was way up (due to supply/demand), then I would price Legos at just under what everybody else is selling at.
With Bonanza’s batch editor, you can even temporarily remove items when the demand is low and bring them back later when the demand (and price) is higher. If the price is one that doesn’t fluctuate over the course of a year, then it makes sense to just leave it listed.
With that said, ALL of my items are not demand-sensitive, so I just price them at a very good, reasonable price that I can live with.

We price it high and let it sit. Why give your stuff away? We sometimes have a 10-20% off sale. If you offer fast shipping (same day). I feel you can get a higher asking price.

I do the exact same thing as Tomwayne does, No matter the time of year, I always try to do a price comparison first for the item I have, and I price it slightly under the going rate……Also, what is hot one year, could fizzle out later, so if i see something is selling well on other sites, I try to take advantage of that and list that item right away.

Sharon, I think if it is something like Lego or Christmas ornies, I would either hold off listing them, or keep them at the price you want. You’d hate to sell it cheap now, only to find you could get a much higher price by waiting. If it’s something in demand, maybe the other sellers will unload theirs earlier in the year, but you’ll be right there when the item becomes in demand again.
If you’re trying to dump inventory, I’d say price it lower now and get rid of it. If not, you know you’ll be disappointed if it sells cheap.

I would say it depends on the reason I’m selling it. EVERYTHING has a price.
I collect hens-on-a-nest. I have some I would like to keep. BUT, if someone was visiting my house and offered me, say, $100 for my salt cellar HONS, I’d sell them. Those HONS are much less expensive than the other HONS I have, and I really have them as just an ‘addition’ to my HON collection~~not the type of HON I specifically search for, these cellars are just ones I ‘happened into’ at garage sales and Auction.
BUT, for my Indiana Glass HONS~~though also not big-ticket items, except for certain colours~~I would want at least $30 PER HEN. I specifically looked for IG HONs at one time to fill a soffitt.
Now if they wanted one of my Shirley Smith HONs, they’d have to apply for a loan at the bank first.
Typically for something I bought specifically for resale, I do the same as another seller [URL removed] I price mine a little higher than competition.
I’m worth the extra cost! Also, I can lower the price at a later date OR offer discounts.
It’s hard to say what each item SHOULD be priced at, considering there’s sooooooooo many online sales site, and thousands of sellers on each site.
Sometimes I get too involved in setting a price and then get frustrated and just throw a number on the item.
Legos seem to be one of those things that ALWAYS swings back around in pricing. I have some I need to list and what I’m going to do for those is put a higher price on them and then let them sit until someone feels compelled to dish out the dough.
I NEVER let anything ‘just sit’. We have too many selling sites, like Bonanza, that allow us to list a certain # of items for FREE. We only pay if it sells.
My theory [URL removed] It doesn’t make money sitting in the warehouse, unlisted.If I have the FREE listings available, I use them.
The listing will sit around if I run out of FREE listings available on any particular site, though.
