When selling an item, I see “reserve item”. What does this mean?

Putting a listing on “Reserve” allows you to “hide” the listing from view. Later, by using the Batch Editor, you can mark the listing “For Sale” and return it to your booth. You can Reserve a listing through the Batch Edit Items page or click on the Reserve Item link that is on an individual listing page. However, you can only bring an item back “For Sale” by using the Batch Editor.
