Got an email this morning saying I have no payment option selected. I have and always have all the YEARS I’ve been here. Followed their instructions and money order option is not there. They threaten to close my booth if I don’t correct this before a certain date. Hard to correct when the money order option is not there. Taking money orders is why I left eBay and came to Bonanza. So what now is Bonanza becoming a directorship like eBay. What happen to the nice friendly site with prompt customer service???? And yes I have contacted customer service about this. I’m really getting very disappointed in Bonanza and if this is the way they operate I will no longer give them refer them from my website nor tell people to shop here.
Hey sasswbe,
We recently noticed that your booth doesn’t seem to have any way setup for buyers to pay for items they want to buy from you. Not to worry, it is an easy fix! 1. Visit the page to edit your booth. (You’ll be asked to login, if you forgot your user name it is “sasswbe”, there’s a link from the login page to get your password if you forgot that)Just follow these [URL removed]
2. Just to the right of the heading that says “The Basics”, there is a line called “Payment types accepted.” Click the edit link next to that and put checkboxes next to one or more payment types, then click “Save.”
3. Click the “Update booth” button. If you chose to accept Paypal or Amazon Payments, you’ll be taken to a page where you can give us more details about your Paypal or Amazon Payments account.
And that’s it!
Please note that, due to potentially fraudulent behaviors, we’re requiring all booths have at least one valid method of payment setup. If you haven’t setup a means to accept payment by 07/15/16 your booth will be deactivated and your items set to “Reserve” status until you add a payment type.
Thanks for your attention. Please don’t hesitate to email us at [email protected] if you have any further questions.

1000 apologies to everyone who uses money orders for the inconvenience. Bonanza no longer supports money orders as a payment option on our site or shopping cart. That does not mean that you cannot accept them in the future, it only means that we no longer integrate them with our shopping cart. The workaround would be to have your buyer make an offer, then to accept the offer. Once that is done then you can request a money order directly from the buyer and manually mark the transaction as paid on Bonanza.
The decision to remove support for money orders was one based on user safety. Money orders tend to attract a high percentage of fraudulent transactions so removing them will aid in our goal to be the safest online marketplace. Thank you for your understanding and support. Happy 4th of July to everyone who celebrates :)

How strange. I didn’t receive any notification and I can’t find any announcement about this change anywhere on the site.

The decision not to accept money orders is implemented not only to prevent fraudulent transactions affecting sellers. Bonanza also has to worry about buyers being affected by fraudulent transactions. Certainly, a seller can verify that a money order is good prior to shipping the item. So the seller is protected in that scenario.
However, there may have been some sellers out there who cash money orders and then they don’t ship the item. There is no recourse for a buyer when a seller doesn’t ship the item. If that happens, it is the buyer who becomes the recipient of a fraudulent transaction. That affects Bonanza’s reputation more than fraud perpetrated by a buyer. Buyers certainly have to be protected. Otherwise, a marketplace becomes an unsafe place to shop.

There are other sites that give more payment options. You could always create your own site and offer money orders as an option. Bonanza is making a legitimate change as a whole. Electronic payments are quick and easy for verification. I used to use money orders as well, but did not like the time requirement involved for accepting them.
Even eBay restricts the use of Money Orders to certain categories.

I accept money orders only, so, I will be leaving Bonanza. I left Ebay and moved to Bonanza for this very same reason – Ebay insisted on Paypal.

Got a record time reply but I guess Bonanza is getting to be just like eBay. Very unfair to change after all these years and with such a short notice especially since this site has so few sales. Guess I better start looking for a new place to move to and for sure I will stop referring people here and remove the link off my website. Here is their [URL removed]

Why would it not be okay to accept USPS money orders. You can cash them at the post office before shipping. That way you know they are good?
Just wanting to know.

I totally get why Bonanza doesn’t want to utilize a money order payment system. Safety – security for buyer and seller alike. One more thing I’d like to point out – Bonanza has been here for everyone to utilize for many years now. Everyone is entitled to make money – Bonanza is no exception. They’ve kept their fees ridiculously affordable for years – you get to park your stuff here for free if that’s the way you choose to do it. Their constantly coming up with improvements and widgets. Those things take a lot of time. Did you forget how the treatment is at the “other” place? Anyone on this earth who is holding one single selling venue’s feet to the fire to provide them with a living is insane. It’s not the way it works anymore. These guys provided sellers with an alternative venue for nothing or nearly nothing for many years now. Give them a break. The economy stinks right now and will probably be that way till after the elections. I’m no cheerleader for Bonanza but I am a realist and I know what it takes to keep a business running and I for one am grateful to have a peaceful – well running place to trade with normal folks who will always answer your questions quickly and politely.

I never accepted money orders! I have had a fraudulent one and know of many other sellers that have also.
