I am very new to the platform here and I looked through the forum questions and didn’t find what I was looking for.
I have some books (Bibles) that have imitation leather as well as some that have bonded leather and some that have genuine leather covers. When listing one of these, the format only gives me the option for paperback, hardcover, and audio. How do I create sub categories for the format so I can add the appropriate type of cover?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Since the Books category does not allow an option in the item traits for variations, you can suggest that that “Many Formats” be added under the format trait, to allow for variations to be added.
Or suggest that a “binding type” trait be added to the books category

This link has a form that can be submitted to suggest addition item traits for categories

In the format box you can manually type in a format of your choosing. Try typing in bonded leather. As you begin typing, blue text below the box will appear. It should say “Use bonded leather as a Format”. Select that blue text and your manually entered format selection will be used.
Once you select the blue text a box on the left side of the page will appear and say "Your custom value of “bonded leather” has been set for Format.

Making your own book is possible, but it’s also a lot of work, unless it’s a very short book. You’ll need a few specialized tools, and you’ll probably make a few mistakes before getting it right. Furthermore, you may use these tools to polish your furniture and give it a new, fresh look at [URL removed]
You can certainly find a guide with photographs on the internet, but you’ll need to print it, fold it, drill the spine, sew it, glue it up, and construct the cover. If you’re simply printing something for one individual, I’d recommend going to a website that specializes in custom printing.

Thank you for your suggestions. I have tried the “suggest a new item trait” but the only items I can suggest to add traits are country/region of manufacture and condition.
For now, I will just have to put the type of cover in the title as well as in the description.
Again, thank you everyone for your assistance.
