I need some help identifying this Chinese brass item!
Anyone know what it is?

Cigar ashtray.
The top is for a box of wooden matches.
The match box was inserted on top,and the
raised part pushed the box up partially out
of it’s sleeve so the matches were easy to grasp.
The two shelf like things were for spent matches.

First glance looks like a cigar ashtray to me also. I can’t see the “holder” at the top to make out what is engraved on it.

They were usually made in INDIA though, Not China! ;)

Looks like cigar ashtray with match holder, sending you a bm with link to one at other site.
