Any updates that you've noticed across the web for internet sales?

Curious to know if anyone has recently read any internet blogs/articles on how sales are going all over the internet in general for holiday shopping?

I was making a search last night but could not seem to find a good article on it.

I also wonder how Halloween sales did all over in comparison to the previous year. I’ve seen articles where they say Halloween 2018 expected…hopefully good news there and will spread out through Christmas and into January.

I belong to a small group where we post on a site. Usually, we talk a little more, so I do not know how they are doing at this point so far. We all sell at different places for the most part, which helps to know.

I’ve had one sale that I know would not be used as a Christmas item. I am looking into my crystal ball and I see a sale coming in tomorrow lol.

Funny that I would have things here in the past that would not sell on Ebay and they sold here in short order. Now I can have something here for a very long time and I would move it onto Ebay and it would sell but lately Ebay has dried up for me (with no views ~ almost like here) because I dont jump thru all of Ebays hoops like guaranteed delivery (like I have control over the PO) and free shipping and returns with free shipping. Latest being joining their new payment system and ditching Paypal for their payment system (where you need to ship item BEFORE Ebay pays you for it ~ NO THANKS). Now it seems on Ebay, because I dont play the way they want, I am banished to the forbidden zone with NO views at all.

As a note of record, I dont go in here (and never have) with their paid memberships and I just advertise at the 9 pct level (to get my stuff into Google.)
I may also be on Double Secret Probation here as many times my answers dont seem to show up or get deleted shortly afterwards. But I still Prefer Bonanza over the other choices.
It is just a hobby for me and keeps me occupied so I am not chasing the wife all over the house all the time.

It’s a hobby for me also but I do wish it could be more. I’ve worked so hard on selling online over the years.

I Hear You Empress. There is a LOT of work that goes into listing stuff unless you just throw it out with little in way of description. Then there is the packing, not just tossin in a box and hope it makes it. Buyers dont realize what it takes.

I feel the same with Ebay. I’m phasing them out because I don’t need them controlling my money. I’m also tired of jumping through their hoops. And constantly telling me to lower prices just to make a sale so they can meet their bottom line no matter what the worth is.

I think I need to look for a new crystal ball

Mine must be defective since I did not get sale today after all lol. Don’t think it is going to happen with 52 mins to spare…unless there really is such a thing as a miracle on 34th Street

Ib30 and atomic, yes, the bottom dollar keeps shrinking. One of the changes eBay is wanting to do will cut into the bottom dollar even more. I’m thinking one of our biggest defenses is condition, condition, condition of the item. What do you all think is a good defense for being proactive?

Woot, sale this morning at 8:47, a little late but better than never. Not a Christmas sale though

I’ve been selling on ebay for nearly 19 years. I went from 64 sales in Sept. to 40 in Oct. to only 16 sales so far for Nov.. I haven’t opted into any of their new policies and I think that has a lot to do with my drop in sales. This will be the worst holiday season in all my years selling on ebay

I haven’t seen anything about this, but looking at my lack of sales here, I’d love to know which sites are selling.

Would like to know how it is going elsewhere also..even at the box stores.

@ExpressD I’ve made 10 sales in a year on Bonanza. The new site I’m on, I made 3 sales in the first week. I’m currently in the process of transferring the majority of my items to the new site.

EmpressDepot says: November 13, 2018

Karen, would this be Etsy by any chance?

Atomicdiner says: November 15, 2018

Karen, Curios minds would like to know what site where you can make 3 sales in the FIRST week. Please share as us sellers are all in this sales slump together.

I made a sale here last week. That was the first sale I’ve had for a LONG time on ANY of the sites I sell on.
There’s just way to much competition online. I doubt any site is doing well anymore. This pie has been sliced so thin that it’s hard for any one seller~~or any one site, for that matter~~can do very well.
I’ve been narrowing my scope of themes on all my sites. I think this will help improve my sales, but probably not by much. I use to think that casting a wide net (in way of offering a wide variety of items) was the way to go. Now I’m thinking that streamlining my products into just a few types is the better option. I think I should focus on long-term customers as opposed to constantly luring in new ones.
I’m just going to stick with the things I [URL removed] mechanical watches, lapel pins, handmade voodoo dolls, and handmade cat toys.

Perhaps if you made voodoo dolls of the auction site people in charge, they could be big sellers.

Lol.

Congrats on your sale Quaker.

EmpressDepot says: November 13, 2018

Very well said Quaker. I am inlined to agree with you.

Inclined I meant to say

I have been on Bonanza since it was Bonanzel 2008, I think we all had more sales back then. Seems to me with the name change things had slowed down. I have been away for a while and now working hard on my booth again. Sales have been slow, for me on all the sites I am on. Ebay was doing good but the last few months it has died out for me. Lots of networking and posting on Pinterest does help.

Thank you very much for sharing this information. I started listing to a few other sites 2 days ago. I cannot take the chance in Christmas flying right by my booth. Good luck this season and welcome back
