What is the difference between a regular edition and a book club edition? Any difference in value?
Thanks

“There are several ways to identify book club editions (BCE). Different book clubs use different criteria for identifying their books. As a rule of [URL removed]
Book club editions will not be priced. (However, some University presses & small presses do not price their books either, so lack of a price will not always be a sure way to identify a BCE.)
Book club editions are often a little smaller than a regular hardcover book, and may feel lighter. The paper may not be the same quality as on the trade edition.
There may be a blindstamp impressed into the back cover of a hardcover book. Turn the book over, and look near the bottom of the back cover, near the spine. There may be a small shape impressed into the cover. This is a blindstamp and always indicates a book club edition.
Look at the flaps of the dustjacket. There may be a notation “Book Club Edition,” or something similar.
Check the copyright page. Occasionally the name of the book club will be found here.
Paperback book club books are often (but not always) a little larger than the trade paperbacks. They will not be priced."

Historical romance book club editions are highly collectible. Readers love to have their favorite authors in hardback editions. Especially some of the older books that are out of print.

There are some examples where a BCE is worth more then the mass market edition. Particularly in the Sci-fi field where book club editions may contain material not in the regular edition. Why? because many starting Authors got a BCE contract as a side line and a promo of their work before the press run of the regular books, things where changed and edited. Particularly book club editions of Enders Game, anything by William Gibson, and Early Anne McCaffey and Hienlien all have excellent BCE editions worth more then their mass market counters.

Editions published by book clubs like The Book-of-the-Month Club, Fireside Book Club, History Book Club, The Literary Guild, etc.
A book club edition is not typically the work of the original publisher but sometimes a book club printing is the first edition of the book.

Ok.. I asked Jo.. and she said that " Book Club Editions or BCE’s are a great way to buy a book you want to read without spending a lot of money. For collector’s they are usually a big No-No! You may spot them because they do not have prices on the dust jackets. They are also often smaller, the paper they are printed on and the cover boards are not the quality of the original.
Sometimes a publisher like Random House will sale the book club plates and these are used by the book club to print and this is why some BCE’s say First Edition. That does not mean every book smaller and without a price on the dust jacket is a BCE. There are rarely BCE’s that are true first editions. Yes, the value is lower on the BCE. There are many other details that I could cover, but this is a simple explanation."

I always found Book Club editions to be inferior to regular editions.

If you have an interest in buying and selling books, an excellent small investment is A Pocket Guide to the Identification of First Editions by Bill McBride. It’s small and an easy way to check editions in the field.

A book club edition (BCE) or book of the month club edition (BOMC) refers to a book printed by a “book club” with cheaper materials than the original publishing house and is generally not worth much to the serious collector.

It is not difficult to clear the differences between booksellers and book editors. I want to say that A bookseller only sells the book at his book shop but a book editor prints the books for the students or readers.
