To the naked eye this transparent marble is ruby red with a thin wispy black streak. Then, by accident, I hit it with a UV (Ultra Violet, black light) and the marble turned opaque! No longer is it transparent ruby red but it becomes opaque with a thick pearly-caramel brown! I could not catch the colorful transformation on film but was able to use an IR (Infrared) camera to capture not the color change but just the transformation from transparent to opaque! I tried it on other marbles and get nothing! Does this transformation tell anyone anything special about this marble? It looks like it’s handmade from a little “pontil” mark on it but I don’t know much more… any help or comments welcome!

Fascinating! I need to think about this one for a bit; part of me is wondering if it is a glass marble (look for bubbles under 10x magnification) or if it is a stone such as carnelian. In any event, you have fantastic resolution on your camera, Dan.

Yes… I see a few small bubbles under a 10x loop. With the camera I did my best! Now, where are the marble experts? LOL

Many have told me I have rocks in my head…but, I’m not a marble expert [those were mostly glass, right?]. I seem to remember playing marbles when I was a kid…but, have no idea where I lost my marbles! Only that at some point…I did.
Not to get off the subject but I noticed the great quality of your pix! Great job! I need to take some lessons…my lil 7.1MP camera WITH my eyesight is just a shade better than my really old brownie…[with cheap film!].
