Re: aromatherapy/oil burners: which creates less of a footprint on the earth: oil or tarts? electric or candle?

I love oil burners using tealights, but they only last about 4 hours. Although rather cheap, they need constant refill.

And I just kept pouring more oil into it, until one day, my throat was a bit scratchy, then I noticed the oil was thick and dark, so I dumped it and put fresh stuff in.

So I wonder if tarts would be better.

I’m investing in an electric burner, to reduce candle usage, as I’m hoping it’s less harmful to the environment of my home and earth, but I’m not sure…

Before I invest further and do tons of research, I’m wondering if anyone else has done such research already, and knows what heating method (candle or electric) is best, and which is better, oil or tarts, for the air.

this is what i do and its worked for me for, well a really long time!

i got myself a electric candle warmer plate, its a little more expensive one, it has vents that disperse air around the base so it dont leave a “hot” ring on some materials and the black hot area it sits on will not peel. then i use a plain old glass 16oz mason jar and fill it almost full of water then place about 1tsp of whatever scented oil i want in the water and turn on the candle warmer. i have it on all day when im home and turn it off at night. this full jar of water and bit of oil scents up my home for about a week!

Electric is safer in the long run. I have access to warmers that have a timer on them which i think provides even more safety.

Electric is safer and if your using paraffin tea lite, they aren’t good for the environment or you. With out the candles you don’t have the smoke or pollutants in the air in your home.

I agree with the answers above. Electric oil/tart warmers are the best…no flame so no worries about watching the candles. The electric warmers I have in my booth also make great night lights, they have dimmer switches on them so you can adjust.

Palm wax, bees wax and soy wax are the only organic or natural waxes that I use. They hardly smoke at all, and if you push down your lit wick with a wick dipper into the melted wax pool and then push it back up it won’t cause any smoke and also re-waxes the wick! Parafin waxes are made with petroleum products. ( my hubby works for an oil refinery!) Not to say that candles made with those waxes are good, I just prefer natural products….and plus using soy wax helps our American soy bean farmers!

I only use Soy myself, in all tarts I make.
I definately prefer an electric warmer. I use the tealight one in
my office at work, but I really do need to invest in another electric one. I do like to use all the different fragrance oils, and alot of the stronger oils, I add a few drops of oil, and a tad of water, and a small bottle of fragrance lasts a very long time.

Soy is definately better to burn than oils, but I myself use both tarts and oils.

There are warmers made for 100% pure Organic Essential Oils. There will be no burning as long as you remember to turn it off when empty. It will not be toxic unless you have a allergy to a certain plant. 100% Pure Lavender Oil has been used for centuries as have many other Oils. The key to keeping our air safe..Use only 100% Pure cold pressed Organic Essential Oils. If it is not Organic and 100% Pure, the chemicals used on the plant and any chemical it is mixed with, will be in the air you breath. Especially when used in a closed environment.

I mix mine with 1/3 Organic Almond Oil to make it go further.
