Hello everybody,
I ended up with 2 Lois Vuitton pieces the last time out at consignment auction. I know / experienced the frenzy about these items, becoming immediately apparent when being asked to ship them to Australia within 5 minutes of putting them in my booth.
I have spend the latter 3 – 4 days reading and figuring out how to tell real /fake. I have asked some “100 % genuine” sellers on feebay for advice with no avail. I am more confused than ever, and resented the hostility of the feebay people.
The bags have several issues! 1. the handbag is in dire need of repair. The stitching is coming loose and some tears in the handle and clasp. The travel tote or what the heck it is (could not find pictures / references to either) seems to have had a run-in with moisture. While overall in better condition, it has a wonderful ‘antique’ odor to it …sort of like danky, musky, moldy! (Had it tested for mold, negative)…
How does one get odors out of luggage? Any help would be appreciated and I can provide more pictures if needed.
Thank you all for looking and your possible help.

A good place to start would be a visit to the Purse Forum or Effenhaute. Both have members who will take the time to visually evaluate your products, tell you if they are real or not, and you can also learn alot about how to spot fakes.

if your louie bag is ripping and coming apart at the seam then I would say NO its a fake LV bags are very well made, you can tell sometimes by the stitching it will be exact and no overlaying of thread and such, and everything will be “perfect” in a real louie bag no words with slight slant and such either do you have pics of these items to show, and musty smell I would no re-sell the bag for there are folks out there like me who have asthma and could be bothers by the smells or oders hope I was help Michele

Activated charcoal removes odors. Wrap in a paper towel, put into bag, drop bag into a plastic bag and seal it up. Wait a few days and check it, depending on the smell, the time can vary.

Effenhuate.com can help with determining if your bags are authentic. Lots of sellers there willing to help. You will need to join though but it’s very easy and only takes a minute. Registering is also free. There are many items on the market that you can find at your local store I find the sprays work best and are quick to do the job. Pick one that mentions smoke odors…if it kills that it will kill most anything…..Good Luck to you….I hope you find your bags are authentic..it’s very exciting to harvest the real deal :)

Hello everyone,
thank you all for these tremendous tips and references.
I think I am opting for an authentication service with written assessment that I found via effenhaute.com. Tips for de-skunking … marvelous tip with activated charcoal, didn’t know about this one, and having a hard time locating it in a larger quantity. At this time I’m using in a small bucket cat-litter (non scented) inside the travel tote, and several containers full surrounding both tote and bag in a 120 qt Coleman cooler.
@Michele, I am going through this effort, because I think that both are authentic bags, just because of the high quality appearance of the items. The bag is not coming apart at the seams, the stitching of the leather handle is unraveling. Besides I would not offer these bags without proper disclosure of ALL issues, including odors, just because I am concerned about health affects.
Both items for sure would be primarily for a person that knows restoration / refurbishing of LV and is able to see that both items had a rough time over the last few years. For sure they were not stored in a controlled environment. Either dank basement (storage) or attic would be my first guess.
I will post updates about the bags authenticity and odor when we have finished the process.
My deepest gratitude for all your tips and tricks.
May you all be blessed!
Klaus
